Nomios Netherlands is adding two new partners to its portfolio: Proofpoint and Varonis. Two announcements at once, and that is no coincidence. On 15 October 2026, Proofpoint announced it will acquire Varonis for approximately USD 6.3 billion; closing is expected in the first half of 2027.
Nomios has worked with both companies in Europe for some time. In the Netherlands we are now signing a partner agreement with each of them and are the first to actively bring the two together. That makes us the launching partner of a combination the market will only formally see next year. In this blog I explain why both companies are such a good fit for us, what the acquisition means for you, and I invite you to our event on 4 March 2027.
Why Proofpoint: people as the attack surface
Most successful attacks start with a person: a phishing email, a compromised account, an employee who accidentally forwards a sensitive file. Proofpoint has built its platform around exactly that. It protects email and collaboration tools against targeted attacks, prevents data loss, flags risky user behaviour and, more recently, monitors how employees and AI agents interact with generative AI.
That last point is relevant to almost all of our customers: AI tools are being rolled out widely, but visibility into which data is shared with them is often missing. Within our portfolio, which is strong in network, access and visibility, Proofpoint fills precisely the layer of communication and human behaviour.
Why Varonis: knowing where your data lives and who can reach it
Where Proofpoint looks at what people do, Varonis looks at where the data is and who has access to it. It discovers and classifies sensitive data across file servers, Microsoft 365, SaaS applications and cloud storage, maps access rights, automatically removes excessive permissions and detects abnormal behaviour around that data.
In practice, at many organisations a large share of sensitive data is accessible to far too many people, because permissions have piled up over the years. With AI assistants this becomes urgent: a Copilot retrieves everything the user is allowed to see, including the folder nobody remembered. Varonis fixes that at the source.
For our portfolio this is the step from infrastructure security to data security, including the posture (DSPM) and access governance (DAG) that regulators and auditors increasingly ask for.
The acquisition: linking intent and behaviour to data and access
On 15 October 2026, Proofpoint announced it will acquire Varonis for approximately USD 6.3 billion in cash. It is the largest cybersecurity acquisition announced this year. Closing is expected in the first half of 2027, subject to shareholder and regulatory approval. Until then, both companies continue to operate independently.
The logic behind the combination is the logic behind our two partnerships. Proofpoint knows how people and AI agents use data; Varonis knows what data exists, where it lives and who should have access. Together they intend to offer a single platform spanning DSPM and DAG to insider risk, DLP and AI governance, serving, by their own account, more than 16,000 enterprises.
For customers nothing changes right now: products, contracts, support and account teams stay as they are. That creates room to get ahead. Proofpoint customers can get their data foundation in order with Varonis; Varonis customers can add the human layer with Proofpoint. After closing, the foundations are already in place.

Nomios Netherlands as launching partner
Nomios has worked with both Proofpoint and Varonis in Europe for a considerable time. We are now bringing that experience to the Netherlands, with our own partner agreement with each company and a team that knows both technologies. We are the first party to actively combine Proofpoint and Varonis into a single proposition, ahead of the acquisition closing. We are moving early, so our customers do not have to wait until 2027.
This fits how we build our portfolio: not as many logos as possible, but technologies that complement each other and together tell a coherent story from network to data. And because Nomios handles integration, implementation and management, you do not have to align two vendors yourself.
Invitation: Nomios x Proofpoint x Varonis, 4 March 2027
On Thursday 4 March 2027 we are hosting the Nomios x Proofpoint x Varonis event at our office in Zoeterwoude. Specialists from both companies and from Nomios will show what the combination of human-centric security and data security looks like in practice, what the acquisition means for existing customers and how you can prepare for it today.
The event is intended for:
- Proofpoint customers who want to know what Varonis adds to their environment
- Varonis customers who want to see how Proofpoint fills in the human layer on top
- IT managers and cybersecurity leaders who do not yet work with either, but want control over data, AI usage and people as the attack surface
The formal acquisition will take a little longer. Getting to know the combination does not have to. I look forward to meeting you on 4 March.
