Leiden, march 9, 2009 – Juniper Networks, the leader in high-performance networking, today announced the expansion of the Juniper Networks SRX Series with the SRX3000 line of extensible “no compromise” networking and security products that run on JUNOS® Software, a single source network operating system integrating routing, switching, and security services. Ideal for data center, enterprise, public sector and service provider environments, the SRX3000 line delivers the flexibility, security, scalability, operational simplicity and reliability required by high-performance businesses to deploy next-generation services. As the only services gateways to deliver unmatched price/performance network security and enable both low CAPEX and low long-term OPEX investments, the SRX3400 and SRX3600 can significantly reduce network complexity and lower total cost of ownership (TCO) by up to 65 percent. At the same time, they can drastically reduce both power consumption and needed rack space by up to 80 percent versus existing security solutions.
High-performance businesses view the network as critical for accelerating deployment of new service and fueling business efficiencies, especially with 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) being the new standard. To grow and manage their complex networks, businesses need to quickly adapt to changing market conditions without compromising security or performance. The SRX3000 line extends Juniper’s family of services gateways (see original announcement introducing the SRX5000 line) to deliver unmatched price/performance network security architected to secure today’s services as well as the flexibility needed to secure future services. This allows high-performance businesses to quickly and cost-effectively deploy new services, adapt to changing business/market requirements, and increase business efficiencies that fuel growth and innovation.
“Enterprises want devices that offer integrated security and deliver the right mix of enhanced perimeter and data center security for their data, employees and customers,” said Phil Hochmuth, senior analyst at Yankee Group “They also need a flexible ‘pay as you grow’ model that can lower TCO while turning on new services as business expands. The Juniper Networks SRX3000 line provides a robust security platform for organizations seeking to seamlessly deploy additional security services without impacting overall system performance and reliability.”
Flexibility and Security without Compromise
The SRX3000 line offers a flexible and modular approach to drive a sustainable competitive advantage for companies to simultaneously improve data protection, maintain compliance, increase productivity and lower TCO. In addition to delivering firewall services, the SRX3000 line natively integrates multiple services such as Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Distributed Denial of Service (DDos/DoS) protection, Network Address Translation (NAT), policy and control, identity management, and Quality of Service (QoS). The ability of the SRX Series to support and optimize multiple services coupled with the flexibility to scale cost-effectively, enables the product to provide no-compromise performance and security to applications and key services running on the network, thus delivering a superior user experience and improved productivity.
Scalable Performance
The SRX Series is built upon the industry’s first ”no-compromise” Dynamic Services Architecture, an extensible design that can simultaneously scale integrated services and network capabilities on a single architecture to reduce the escalating demands and risks placed on the network. Juniper Networks Dynamic Services Architecture offers a dedicated dual management engine and purpose-built, carrier-class terabit speed fabric technology to enable fast, reliable and secure access to applications and services from a single network architecture that runs on a single operating system managed by a single management framework. The extensibility of the SRX Series offers scalable performance based on the appropriate footprint, types of services and number of input/output and services processing cards (SPCs). Unlike single-purpose security appliances or traditional chassis platforms, the SRX Services Gateways deliver a wide range of services to meet evolving high-performance business requirements. The range of services as well as the ability to readily “turn-on” new features, greatly accelerates application and service deployments.
“The flexible architecture of the Juniper Networks SRX Series allows us to take a bold step forward in understanding the growing SMB market needs to maintain an ultra high level of security without compromising performance,” said Bob Cichon, President of Newtek Technology Services.
Operational Simplicity and Reliability
The SRX Series runs on JUNOS to deliver unmatched carrier-grade reliability and operational simplicity. JUNOS helps to automate network operations by providing a single consistent implementation of features across the network in a single release train that minimizes the complexity, cost and risk associated with implementing network features and upgrades. This helps to lower operational and management complexities and provides network administrators with more time to innovate and deliver new revenue-generating applications.
“The SRX3000 represents Juniper’s continued commitment to provide the industry’s most innovative and cost-effective security products,” said Douglas Murray, vice president and general manager, High-End Security Systems, Juniper Networks. “The SRX3400 and SRX3600 improve performance while overcoming the tradeoffs prevalent in security products today. The SRX Series is about integrating the security and networking services customers require, as they need them.”
SRX3400 and SRX3600 Services Gateways
The SRX3600 is the industry’s first single platform that enables a no-compromise 10 GE network environment that can support 30 Gbps of stateful firewall, up to 10 Gbps of VPN, 10 Gbps of IPS, and 175,000 new connections per second. The SRX3400 can support 20 Gbps of stateful firewall, up to 6 Gbps of VPN, 6 Gbps of IPS, and 175,000 new connections per second. Both the SRX3400 and SRX3600 are based on mid-plane design, enabling twice as much flexibility as other units of similar size. Similar to the SRX5000 line, the SRX3000 line offers the scalability of the SPCs and input/output cards for scale of Ethernet ports and services processing.
The SRX3000 Series Services Gateways make up part of the recently announced Juniper Networks Adaptive Threat Management Solutions (see today’s related announcement). Based on a dynamic, open security infrastructure, Juniper’s Adaptive Threat Management Solutions leverage new and enhanced technologies based on a best-in-class networking product portfolio.
